In August the 2012 Faribault Girls Soccer season started.  This year marks the 10th year Mr. Meier and myself have been at the helm.  This season, the team is working to improve both defensively and offensively.

12302009_115501_6.jpgThe 11th season of coaching diving for Carleton College and St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN is almost underway.  I have the opportunity to work with many top athletes again this year.  Navigate to either schools athletics website to find out more information.

Eventually, if time permits, I would like to become involved with the high school swimming and diving programs here 12302009_120412_19.jpgat FHS

Also again this summer I will be running a 7th Annual St. Olaf Diving camp.  More information can be found at St. Olaf Diving Camp.

Mr. Kortuem's Sports Autobiography
As a youth I participated in many sports.  At various times in my life I participated in organized baseball, hockey, soccer, swimming, diving, gymnastics, golf and tennis. During high school, I was forced to choose a select few.  I ended up choosing soccer, diving and tennis.  These decisions would ultimately end up determining my future as a student, athlete and coach.

In the fall of 1997, I enrolled in St. Olaf College.  The reason for choosing St. Olaf was simple.  I would be able to participate in both soccer and diving at the collegiate level.  Unfortunately, an ACL injury ended my collegiate soccer career short.  I played one game in uniform but attended many on the sidelines as a student coach for my Freshmen and Sophomore seasons.  The knee injury prompted me to earn a medical red-shirt and thus no diving season my freshman year.  At the time the injury was devastating, but perhaps it changed the outlook of my diving career.

During the next four years I was able to focus exclusively on diving.  This new focus helped me attain 7 All American honors and a National Championship my senior year.  Upon graduation, I took over the coaching position for both Carleton and St. Olaf College.

My love of sport stems from a sense of team and also the challenges one must face.  Through challenges we become stronger and better people.  We all have difficult times but how we deal with these times helps mold us as an individual.  Learning how to be a part of a team and sharing the challenges has helped me become who I am today.  I would hope to instill the same values in all atheltes; past, present or future, that I coach.
