The sixth grade math curriculum at Faribault Middle School uses Holt McDougal Mathematics Course 2. This program was selected for use beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. This program is designed to effectively meet the requirements set forth by the state of Minnesota, specifically to address the need for students to take and pass a linear algebra course in 8th grade, prior to moving to high school.
The Holt series offers our students an online textbook and/or the use of DVD with compatible computers. The structure of the textbook offers many examples to assist students and parents with assignments. Organization of the lessons correlates very well with the assignments the students will be receiving. Minnesota state standards have been purposely been identified and placed within the lessons of the text. Careful planning by 6th grade staff will assure that the curriculum and assessments taught by each team will be consistent through the teams.
Students will be given opportunities to develop computational skills and prepare for MCA II testing requirements.
