Hello and welcome to my home page. I have been a teacher in District 656 for 13 years, now, and I have to say that in my lifetime I have never found a more rewarding career than teaching 6th grade students. They are so alive and vital that it forces me to stay young and vibrant, even though sometimes, I know I don't feel that way. I entered teaching later in my life, after being an accountant/office manager for 15 years. But I realized that I should fulfil my life-long dream of becoming an educator, so I entered Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, in Sept., 1989, where I received my Bachelor of Science Degee in Elementary Education and Special
Education in 1993. Then, 5 years ago, I went back to school (something I swore I would never do at my age) and received my Masters of Education at Winona State University.
My first job was in Cannon Falls, where I worked as a Reading/English Teacher for 7th-12th graders, and eventually took a position with ISD 656 as a Special Education teacher at Jefferson Elementary. My second year I spent as a Special Education Traveling Teacher between Jefferson and Roosevelt Elementaries. When the Junior High School switched over to a Middle School, I was extremely fortunate to be taken in as a Sixth Grade teacher on Team 601 where I have remained ever since. It is unbelievable to me that I have been here for 11 years, but they have been some of the best years of my life.
I further consider myself quite fortunate to be a member of Team 601 for that entire time, and although the Team itself has changed it's look a variety of times throughout that period, we have one focus and that is the children we teach. The interaction and collegiality we have on this team is remarkable. I hope you will find us responsive to your needs as we move through the (sometimes) challenging task of teaching our 6th grade middle school students.
on the team has its perks, as well.
I also enjoy the interaction with parents and students, and to that end, I would encourage you to contact me with any concerns or questions. I look forward to a terrific year.
